My mission in life is to inspire others to fully engage with their surroundings. To create a DEEP CONNECTION to heart and purpose, to LISTEN with CURIOSITY, and to LIVE LIFE beyond one’s wildest IMAGINATION.
Life for me began with the expansive freedom of the outdoors. I was raised in the country with the nearest neighbor at least 2 miles away. My brother and I were free to discover to roam not only the wonders of nature but to internally inform our own experience without a lot of input from others. We had endless excitement and intoxication with the wildness outside, all the wondrous excitement that growing up on a farm could provide.
During the summer of my 7th year, life on the farm changed drastically. My father passed away after a difficult road battling his addiction to alcohol. The addiction was something my mother decided she could no longer tolerate. Their focus, approach, and agency proving to be on opposite ends of the spectrum; my father decided to end the battle through suicide. I wasn’t fully aware of the concept until a few years later when a friend let me in on what that meant. Even though my mom worked tremendously hard making up for the dearth of a father in our life what couldn’t fill the void was the shame and embarrassment I felt when people asked me how my father died. I always wanted to avoid the question as if it were a dark cloud that followed me around everywhere I went. I was always afraid of being judged -as if I were somehow defined by the choices that he had made. I managed to shove that feeling deep inside of me and go on living the carefree life that had preceded me. My mom was an amazingly strong, hard-working, and positive woman that made sure we were always surrounded by other positive caring adults and I think it made all the difference.
Hit the Fast forward button for the next 10-15 years and you would find me roaming to the ends of the earth. Traveling and teaching with such an affinity to connect with the vastness of the world; to see smell and touch all it’s offerings. I loved it so much I needed to find a way to see more. I manifested my dream job leading high end active travel vacations in Europe, Central America, and The great American West. Leading trips throughout the external landscape I discovered one of my greatest gifts: the ability to connect with people. And if you fast forward another 15-20 years my greatest joy has been finding community, meeting my husband, and mothering my two boys. They have both brought me so much joy and have informed me in so many ways. I am grateful for all of life’s lessons that have given me depth and the ability to understand and be empathetic to others on their journey.
One of my greatest appreciations is to be able to simultaneously learn about what lights people up while guiding them through the most beautiful landscapes. Over the years the landscape has changed. Always a seeker of external beauty I became a seeker of the internal landscape. Into that which lies beneath the surface and deep in my heart. I felt a strong call to merge my love for connecting to people with healing arts. I was drawn to certifications and trainings in eastern healing modalities, yoga, holistic health and finally to a career in life coaching. In many ways I am doing the same thing I have always done. Guiding myself and others through the most beautiful landscape of all, the internal landscape.
What has always been imprinted on my view on life is the responsibility to recognize impermanence, fragility, and the desire to move with a steady vigor. Never compromising heart in any aspect of my life and learning to live from a place of non-judgement and deep compassion.
This inward view whispered mysteries undiscovered and unknown until I was willing to allow all the noise to fade. There, in the stillness, I discovered what was most essential, most profound, most authentic. A deep expansive relationship with myself that is perfect and at the same time always evolving into more. Today, you can find me traversing the North American landscapes with my husband and two beautiful wildly curious boys.
With Warmth + Gratitude,
Erin
